I Meant To Tell You

I meant to tell you, before I forget:
I remember when you were your old self.
I remember when every Friday night, you came to my house to hang out.
I remember when we used to spend our hours doing homework ,
You always made me laugh, because of some corny math joke.
I remember when we used to talk about our future and our future families and fantasies.
I listened to yours
You listened to mine.
I remember we used to eat popsicles at 10 PM and laugh.
When you tried to jump off the roof of the garage.
You FAILED!
We laughed 'til we peed ourselves
and we cried til we couldn't see...
We stayed the night at each other's house
You said, "I would never change on you."
You didn't follow through...
When I was at home studying,
you were out with some "new friends" hangin'.
I was at home eating a popsicle at 10 PM,
You were at a club, or standing in line for one....
The first time you had sex,
you drank,
you lied,
you stole,
you smoked your first blunt.
One day that blunt got you in trouble,
you landed yourself in rehab.
You said you never would change on me.
You said you wanted to be successful,
your family would share your dreams together forever, without any problems.
We shared our goals. Mine is still processing.
It seems like yours are on hold or slowly dying away.
It was a while ago....
But I remember when you were your old self.
And all the things we did together.
I meant to tell you that.

  1. I want you to know this because it took me 3 years to figure this out. You can't change other people but you can change your self and hope that the other person will change their ways.

  2. I know. People cannot change other but only themselves. This wasn't about me though, although I can relate somehow because some of my friends have changed. So, i appreciate the comment :)

  5. @ Brooklyn- Thanks. It seems like it happens to a lot of people when you get older (like into the middle school/high school age).

@ Stephen King- I apologize. I'll try harder next time to stay away from those colors lol :)
