Kids Across America

What am I doing in 12 days? I am going to Kids Across America or better known as KAA! It's been my dream to go there! It's a Christian camp where various inner city groups from all across America come to one spot and have fun. I'm so excited. Of course I'd be spending my 16th birthday, but spending my birthday in one of my dream places? Oh yeah, I'm down with that! :) Plus, my family doesn't mind, I guess. Every birthday I've been at my house. I'm hoping that at this camp, I'll meet new people. :) COMMENT!!

What I learn from hip-hop is that it can help people can be hurt from people and they listen to hip-hop feel better about there life when they listen to music. Somrtimes when I listen to hip-hop and i'm mad at that to I will go to my room and put some music on ti coum me down when i'm at people.

I choose to write about this because I know more about hip-hop then my mom because she don't even now all the new raps and hip-hop people because she don't even watch that much TV it is on BET that is were i got my info from why I like hip-hop so much . Well now u know why i wrote about this one.

Rather, I was empowered by Salt-N-Pepa ttelling me "fight for your rights, stand up and be heard/ you're just as good as any man, believe that, words" and impressed by Tupac Shakur's willingness to rap unabashedly about his love for his mama.
When I moved to Los Angeles for college, joined other young intellectuals in classes on black pop culture and black literature, where I was often the only white student. I was inspired to study the lynching of [African American Teenager] Emmett Till after hearing him mentioned not by Bob Dylan [a white singer and songwriter]. but in song by rapper Kanye West. Which is why I've been dumbfounded by critics who have recently characterized rap as strictly the domain of materialists and misogynists.
Nobody says you have to be gangstas, hos/ read more, learn more, change the globe." Another one of the past year's best-selling rap arists,, T.I., seduces a women on the song "Why You Wanna" not by saying he wants to slp her behind, but by offering to "compliment you on your interllect and treat you wit respect. " Yes, the lyrics are punctuated by R-rated language and imagery, but there's a criitical difference between a song's profanity and its underlying message.

So since we started this class, i have been working on a video. Due to recent events i had to toss that whole thing out the window. Even though this has happened, I am not letting it keep me from doing the project. So without any further problems. Here it is.

So what is the real effect of music on teenagers? Honestly, there isn't one. After doing research i have discovered that the music isn't having the effect on the kids. The kids had this in them the whole time, they are just using the music as an excuse to get away with the actions that they depict themselves by.

From school shootings being blamed on Marilyn Manson's lyrics. To the outbreak of teen pregnancies shortly after the release of the song "Slice of Your Pie" by Motley Crue. People have always been so quick to pass the blame onto someone else. It's so easy to say that someone told you to do something, but its impossible for people to swallow their pride and realize its their fault.

I have really discovered that the music scene has no real true effect on kids, other than what they allow it to. And by allowing it to take over in such a radical way (i.e. FSU. see earlier post.) that they end up hurting themselves and others, it becomes more of an addiction. They are addicted to the rush. They love the feeling. They can't get enough of knowing they are alive. But what they don't notice is the fact that they have been alive all along. You don't have to punch a kid in the face, push your body out for everyone to see, lower yourself to the sickening standards that are thrown in our face by the media everyday.

By saying that music itself doesn't effect a person I'm lying. Music can effect your mood. It can effect how you perceive things. It can even effect how you see yourself. But there is a difference between that, and the other side which is the radical take over of music on ones soul.

So why does any of this even matter? You might ask. Or you might say, But Chance this isn't a report as much as it is an opinion paper. But isn't that all a report is? An opinion based on facts found by one person. An opinion based on what we are told to say instead of what we have found on our own. This is the effect that can be shoved into us. But it is not done by music.

The real problem is Society. Society is the thing that has the strongest effect on a teenager. From being in school and always trying to fit in, to being at work and doing your best to be the best worker there. Everything people do now-a-days is to impress others. That's all it is. Society has taught us that we can't be happy unless the people around us are happy with us. It sounds confusing but its the truth.

We will never be happy, set to the standards that society shows us. We will never amount to what our society has set out before us. We can walk down this path, straight and narrow, or we can do what we as people should do, and that's start living for ourselves. Stop trying to impress the others around us, and stop worrying what people will think. We need to break free from the binds that society has pushed onto us, and we need to stop this dominatrix act that society has grown to have a fetish of.

I'll leave you with a person who i try to model my life after, and i hope you will see why.

Vampyre: Histories Recurring Legend

The Vampire or Vampyre as the spellings of the old have it, have long been a interest among hundreds of different cultures around the world. In this I will answer questions such as what different types are mentioned throughout history, who was said to be the first in history, and who were some actual recorded "Vampires" in history. I hope to learn many things such as their origins, their nature, and most certainly more. If any readers are interested in the sources used for this, you should check your local library. I read and picked apart the books of Matthew Bunson (the Vampire Encyclopedia) and J.M Dixon (the Weisers Field Guide to Vampires)

Stories of Vampiric creatures date all the way back to the Celtic ages. These stories tell of beings called Sidhe, or as we know them today, Fairies. Although they were said to be very shy by nature and in result would often flee from humans, there were a few instances where people reported that was not the case. Some recalled going into a very deep and extremely seductive trance in which they would lose consciousness. When they awoke they felt drained of all energy. But that wasn't all. Many found well-bled cuts along their wrist and various other blood tender places on their body. These cuts would vary from icy to touch or even to the extreme of smouldering underneath the flesh. It was believed that the degree of pain was dependent upon the amount of feeding the Sidhe did upon their flesh and blood. Some names such as Peter Kurten, John Haigh, and Fritz Haarman. All in all there are many different views, arguments, and legends surrounding the world of Vampires. One could spend hours digging through myths and legends.

In conclusion, after searching through numerous books, I find myself fascinated by the deep roots and factual back bone of vampires. It's scary how the things that are recorded throughout history go through a pattern of similar recurrence. Do I think Vampires are real? It's plausible. I thought it was a bunch of hoo-ah before I read the history. Now? My mind is definitely open to the idea. So if you have an open mind and want to put your nose into something intriguing. Pick up a book on their history and origins. You may find yourself second guessing.

Blogging in a class room

I have blogged before in a classroom, but that was only one time, and no more. I thought that blogging would be really stupid, and boring, and i thought that it would just be a waste of time. I thought that there was not going to be a point because all you do is sit at a computer and just blog about things. I said "oh well, they're just going to see our blog post, and no ones going to care."
Well that's not true. you can express what you really think about things that we;re doing in the class room, or things that you want to talk about. No one criticizes you, and they don't say anything bad. They comment on it, and it can be fun only if you make it fun. There are a lot of topics to talk about, and I've seen a lot of good topics, and research projects.
I've learned that once you get to write about what you want, then you're set, and can do anything.
